Half of world’s children exposed to at least three climate hazards, Unicef says

More than one billion children worldwide are exposed to at least three overlapping climate hazards simultaneously, according to Unicef’s Children’s Climate Risk Report, which examined exposure to eight hazards: coastal floods, droughts, extreme heat, fires, heatwaves, river floods, sand and dust storms, and tropical storms. The Sahel region has over 4 million children facing the triple threat of heatwaves, extreme heat, and dust storms, while in Italy over 6 million children are exposed to prolonged heatwaves and drought. The same report finds that 123,000 children experience more than six such hazards in their lifetimes.
