Aviva identified more than 18,400 suspect claims across its brands in 2025, with a combined value of £233m — a total inflated by the first-time inclusion of the Direct Line brands it acquired in summer 2025. Motor insurance fraud accounted for more than seven in ten cases, driving a 39% rise in the value of detected motor fraud, while home insurance fraud rose 15% as customers exaggerated damage and contents. The insurer reported growing use of AI-generated images and manipulated documents to fabricate accident scenes and damage, and it responded with its own AI tools and analytics.
