Seventy-three LNG dual-fuel vessel newbuild orders were placed during the first six months of 2026, representing nearly 90% of all alternatively fueled vessel orders tracked by DNV, according to SEA-LNG’s mid-year review. The global fleet of LNG bunker vessels reached 67 in operation with another 42 on order, and ports offering LNG bunkering numbered 222. LNG accounted for 58% of container ship tonnage ordered. Global LNG bunker volumes averaged 770,000 cubic meters per month from January through May 2026, up 13% year-on-year. European biomethane production capacity reached 8.2 billion cubic meters annually by end-Q2, up 17%, with operational biogas plants rising from 1,678 to 1,975. The coalition gained provisional consultative status at the IMO.
