A colony of twinflower (Linnaea borealis) was sought in a Scots pinewood near Abernethy in the Cairngorms national park, with the plant standing just 10 cm tall and bearing two pale pinkish-white bell-shaped flowers. The species has declined by 44% in the UK over the past half-century and is red-listed as vulnerable, its remaining colonies isolated; a new twinflower nursery has been established near Abernethy to broaden genetic diversity.
