The World Bank cut its 2026 global growth forecast to 2.5%, down from 2.7% in 2025, and expects inflation to rise to 4% this year from 3.3%, driven by disruptions to oil and fertiliser flows through the Strait of Hormuz. Fertiliser prices are forecast to jump 38% in 2026. Gulf economies’ growth is seen dropping from 4.5% to 1.3% this year. The Bank said it is making up to $100bn available over the next 15 months for the worst-affected developing countries and warned that a renewed escalation could push growth to just 1.3%.
