At Lindisfarne national nature reserve, 138 pairs of little terns produced 201 fledglings in 2025, up from 15 fledglings from 25 pairs in 2020. The reserve uses 5 km of electrifiable netted fences in eight patches and seasonal wardens funded by the EU Life programme to mitigate human disturbance; UK little tern breeding abundance declined 19% from 1986 to 2024.
