Global installed offshore wind capacity reached 92.5 GW at end‑2025, with 9.3 GW commissioned during the year — a 16% increase that marks the third‑highest annual total on record, according to GWEC’s 2026 Global Offshore Wind Report released 9 June in Hanoi. China added 6.6 GW, Europe nearly 2 GW (over 1 GW in the UK), and the average turbine size surpassed 10 MW for the first time at 10.3 MW. GWEC forecasts annual installations will double in 2026, exceed 50 GW per year by 2035, and bring cumulative capacity to 420 GW, while noting that over 50 GW is already under construction and some 25 GW of non‑Chinese projects have permits but await final investment decisions due to grid, auction and subsidy bottlenecks. The council called on governments to fast‑track permitting, increase grid and port investment, improve auction frameworks, and classify offshore wind as nationally significant infrastructure.
