Contractor Boskalis fabricated all 227 caissons by April 2022, each measuring about 131 ft long, 66 ft wide, and 98 ft high, and positioned them onto a prepared rock base to form a 5.7-mile seawall for Phase 2. The phase reclaims roughly 956 acres and is designed to add 21 million TEUs of annual container capacity; reclamation was close to 80 percent complete as of March 2026. When all four phases finish, Tuas Port will cover approximately 3,304 acres with 66 berths and a total capacity of 65 million TEUs per year, making it the world’s largest fully automated container terminal. Singapore handled a record 44.66 million TEUs in 2025, an 8.6 percent rise from 2024. Automation relies on electrified automated guided vehicles, automated cranes, and a private 5G network, which the Maritime and Port Authority says can cut carbon emissions by about 50 percent compared with diesel equipment, though the reclamation and construction carry a significant footprint. Corals at Sultan Shoal were relocated to Sisters’ Island and St. John’s Island, and dredged soil, clay, and silt from other Singapore projects were used as fill.
