Work on East Delacroix marsh creation in full swing

Construction begins with roughly 15,000 linear feet of terracing plus 4,260 linear feet of sediment-retention terrace to cut wave action and shield the Delacroix community from storm surge. Once terraces are in place, containment dikes will be built and Lake Lery sediment dredged to rebuild nearly 400 acres of wetland. The project responds to wetland loss from Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, which left Delacroix exposed to flooding from the east.
