Modelling backed by Scottish Enterprise indicates the Squid system could cut floating wind installation times by up to 50 per cent and deliver savings of up to GBP 1 billion (about EUR 1.2 billion) per gigawatt of capacity. The Product Design Assessment (PDA) from ABS follows an Approval in Principle granted in November 2025 and will be followed by onshore demonstrations at AES’s Huntly facility in July and inshore wet testing at Ardersier in August. The technology, which integrates pre-installed mooring lines and electrical connections into a single subsea unit for plug-and-play turbine hook-up, is manufactured by Aurora Energy Services, which acquired Encomara in 2025.
