The 962 teu Russian-flagged Yanina, a 2005-built containership operated by Rosatom-controlled FESCO, was struck by two Ukrainian uncrewed surface vessels approximately 130 nautical miles from Novorossiysk overnight on 31 July–1 August and subsequently sank. All 17 crew were rescued — 16 by the Turkish-flagged Delphinus and one by Russian naval aviation. Ukraine also struck the 105,600 dwt Greek-owned tanker Bourda and three Bashneft refineries at Ufa in Bashkortostan, roughly 1,600 km from the Ukrainian border, with combined annual refining capacity exceeding 23 million tonnes. Russia claimed it struck port infrastructure and two vessels at Mykolaiv and another ship in the Black Sea.
Context
It is the first sinking of a FESCO-operated vessel in this campaign and follows the 1 August sinking of another Rosatom-owned civilian vessel.
