GICA’s annual meeting is scheduled August 5-7 in New Orleans, with Coast Guard, Army Corps, port and industry representatives convening to address navigation safety and channel maintenance. Association head Paul Dittman said replacement of the Inner Harbor Navigation Canal Lock remains a priority, while the Joint Hurricane Protocol—updated annually since Hurricane Katrina—coordinates post-storm waterway assessments and reopenings. He noted no recent funding shortages for maintenance dredging in Texas and highlighted increased project cargo movements as well as aging infrastructure such as the Bayou Sorrel Lock.
