Aiming to raise £100,000, Hanbury-Tenison set off from Oxford’s Magdalen Bridge on 20 June, supported by his son Merlin, to reach Teddington Lock by 22 June — International Rainforest Day. Actor Russell Crowe pledged to match the first £25,000 raised. The funds are for Europe’s first dedicated temperate rainforest research station, under construction on Hanbury-Tenison’s Cornish farm by the charity Thousand Year Trust.
