DEME is loading monopiles of up to 1,290 tonnes onto its installation vessel Orion at Eemshaven in the Netherlands for Nordlicht I. The foundations measure 80.5 metres and are lifted aboard from barges by Orion's HLC 295000 offshore crane, rated to 5,000 tonnes.
Both the crane and the monopiles were made in Rostock, Germany: Liebherr built the HLC 295000 at its maritime facility there, while EEW Group manufactured the foundations at the neighbouring overseas-port site. The operation positions the foundations for offshore installation at the German North Sea project.
It is the same Nordlicht I construction campaign in which DEME had already installed the first transition piece in mid-August, following first monopile installation.
