Iranian Attacks Push Hormuz Shipping Toward Tehran-Controlled Route
UKMTO route data for the week ending August 14 shows 45 of 51 AIS-visible vessels favouring the northern, Iranian-controlled corridor: 19 outbound and 26 inbound, against eight and five on the Omani southern route. Since July 6, 16 of 18 projectile strikes have hit the Omani corridor, and 12 of 20 recorded incidents damaged engine rooms. Overall AIS-detected transits remain roughly 90% below pre-conflict levels, with 75 outbound and 76 inbound full transits counted, while the IMO Traffic Separation Scheme stays suspended.
