US Warns Iran It Will Step Up Economic Pressure; Two More Ships Attacked in Hormuz
Nine vessels crossed the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday, down from an August average of 12 and far below the more than 130 daily transits before the February war, with no visible crossings early Friday, according to ship-tracking company Kpler. Two Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) vessels were attacked transiting the strait on Thursday evening, and the UAE government blamed Iran. U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said the Navy could maintain its retaliatory blockade "indefinitely" by rotating ships, while Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent promised further measures "next week." Brent and WTI were both up slightly, at about $87 and $81 a barrel.
